Job Description

  • Build, lead, and scale high-performing engineering teams across multiple squads
  • Provide hands-on mentorship to engineering managers and team members; lead by example when necessary
  • Establish a strong culture of accountability, ownership, and engineering excellence
  • Proactively manage team performance, including identifying low performers and taking decisive action
  • Develop leadership pipelines and strengthen organizational capability
  • Define and execute engineering strategy aligned with business and product roadmaps
  • Make informed decisions on technical debt prioritization, balancing long-term sustainability and short-term delivery
  • Modernize legacy systems and drive adoption of scalable, distributed, and cloud-based architectures
  • Ensure systems are secure, reliable, and built for scale
  • Identify bottlenecks across the software development lifecycle, including unclear requirements, technical debt, inefficiencies, and talent gaps
  • Guide teams in producing accurate effort estimations (man-days) and delivery commitments
  • Establish, track, and continuously improve engineering productivity metrics
  • Drive consistent, high-quality delivery through agile and engineering best practices
  • Foster end-to-end ownership within squads, including strong practices in logging, monitoring, alerting, and on-call rotations
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards across system design, DevOps, and testing
  • Oversee development of backend systems, APIs, and platform infrastructure
  • Collaborate with product and data teams to leverage analytics, AI, and automation
  • Drive continuous improvement in platform performance and operational efficiency
  • Translate complex technical concepts into business language for executive stakeholders
  • Negotiate effectively with stakeholders on roadmap priorities and trade-offs
  • Ensure alignment between engineering, product, and business teams
  • Manage external vendors and technology partners where applicable
  • Establish KPIs, OKRs, and performance frameworks for engineering teams
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards
  • Identify and manage risks to ensure operational resilience

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in senior leadership roles managing multiple squads
  • Proven experience scaling engineering teams and leading organizational transformation initiatives
  • Track record of shifting teams from delivery-focused execution to a culture of engineering excellence
  • Strong hands-on experience in building and scaling complex distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of modern architecture, including microservices, cloud platforms, and APIs
  • Experience with high-availability, mission-critical systems
  • Strong leadership in performance management, including decisiveness in handling underperformance
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and teams
  • Ability to lead through change and drive cultural transformation
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes
  • Effective decision-making skills in balancing speed, quality, and cost
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging executive leadership
  • Prior experience in mobility, transportation, logistics, or similar industries is a strong advantage
