Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day legal matters across the Indonesian business, providing practical and commercially sound legal advice.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a high volume of commercial contracts, including procurement, services, supply, construction, operational and business agreements.
  • Advise on corporate transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, investments and other strategic initiatives.
  • Provide legal support on land and property matters, including land acquisition, land title, HGU/HGB, development and related documentation.
  • Advise business teams on regulatory, licensing, compliance and operational legal matters, particularly those relevant to plantation, land and property activities.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, HR, Land, Government Relations and senior management to identify and manage legal risks.
  • Manage and coordinate external counsel, notaries and other professional advisers where required.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the legal team, ensuring effective allocation, review and delivery of legal work.
  • Develop and improve legal templates, processes, contract standards and risk-management practices to support business efficiency.
  • Support senior management on legal risk assessment and strategic business decisions, balancing legal requirements with commercial objectives.
  • Monitor relevant changes in Indonesian laws and regulations and assess their potential impact on the business.

The Successful Applicant

Key Requirements

  • 8-15 years of relevant legal experience, with Indonesian legal qualification; experience in plantation, agribusiness, real estate/property or a related industry is highly relevant.
  • Strong track record in commercial contract negotiation and management, with the ability to manage high-volume and complex legal matters.
  • Exposure to M&A, investments, JVs, land transactions or property development will be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of Indonesian land, corporate, commercial and regulatory matters.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with multiple business functions and senior stakeholders in a commercial environment.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including managing, mentoring or supervising legal professionals.
  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to translate legal risks into practical business solutions.
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required, with the ability to communicate effectively with regional/international stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving business environment and taking ownership of matters independently.
